Få et nuanceret indblik i de kurdiske grupperinger i Syrien og Irak til åben boglancering

Tirsdag d. 7. maj kl. 13.00 lancerer Forsvarsakademiet bogen Internal Kurdish Coherence - Analyzing Alliances, Capacities, Threats, and Political Objectives of Kurdish Groups and Parties in Syria and Iraq, som er udgivet af Scandinavian Military Studies. Publikationen er skrevet af David Vestenskov, konsulent ved Forsvarsakademiets Institut for Militære Operationer og Andreas Høj Fierro, cand.scient.pol og uafhængig forsker.

Bogen præsenterer et nyt og mere nuanceret billede af de forskellige kurdiske grupper i Syrien og Irak, hvoraf den på sin vis op gør op med den til tider ensidige opfattelse af kurdiske grupperinger som en samlet enhed. I bogen stilles der skarpt på de kurdiske grupperingers sammenhængskraft.
 
Det overordnede sigte gennem tre års arbejde med bogens tilblivelse har været at skabe en bedre forståelse for de kurdiske grupperingers politiske mål, deres alliancer og rivalisering samt deres forhold til vestlige allierede i Mellemøsten.

Til arrangementet kan du opleve en kort præsentation af bogens indhold fra bogens forfattere samt en debat med Lars Erslev Andersen fra Dansk Institut for Internationale Studier (DIIS) og Pola Rojan Bagger fra Mellemfolkelig Samvirke, der vil give sine perspektiver på bogens styrker og svagheder i relation til sine egne erfaringer og viden. Efterfølgende vil der være en Q&A-session, hvor publikum har mulighed for at stille spørgsmål. Præsentationer og diskussioner vil blive styret af Forsvarsakademiets dekan Ole Kværnø.

Alle fremmødte vil få skænket et eksemplar af bogen til lanceringen. Efterfølgende vil bogen kunne bestilles via fak.dk (link tilgår).

The Royal Danish Defence College would like to invite you to the book launch of our new publication titled: Internal Kurdish Coherence - Analyzing Alliances, Capacities, Threats, and Political Objectives of Kurdish Groups and Parties in Syria and Iraq by David Vestenskov, Consultant at the Royal Danish Defence College and Andreas Høj Fierro, Master of Science and independent researcher.

The publication sets out to paint a new and more comprehensive picture of the different Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq. The publication deals with the prevailing understanding in the media, where Kurdish groupings are portrayed as a unified entity. Thus, this book concludes that these groups indeed have very different policy objectives and diverging regional partners of alliance thereby questioning the underlying assumption of a uniformed Kurdish entity.

The book makes a significant contribution to a better understanding of the political goals, affiliations, and rivalries of these important actors and Western allies in the Middle East. A hard copy of the book will be handed out to all those participating in the event.

The event will begin with a presentation of the main conclusions of the publication by the two authors of the book. Followed by the experts Lars Erslev Andersen from Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), and Pola Rojan Bagger from Mellemfolkelig Samvirke (Danish Association for International Co-operation) will present their view on the book and the Kurdish groups in Iraq and Syria. These presentations will be followed by a Q&A-session, where the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.
