A new brief produced by researchers with the Danish Institute for International Studies and Rikke Haugegaard from The Royal Danish Defence College shows that despite efforts to increase the deployment of female soldiers, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali (MINUSMA) remains dominated by men.

Less than 2 pct. of the 11.000 troops are women. A focus on the operational relevance of gender integration and on strengthening existing capacities in the mission will be small, yet realistic, steps forward.
