In October the annual conference “Coping with Culture” was held in Denmark in collaboration with the Royal Danish Defence College. The conference concerned different aspects of military operations, which see the benefit of applying culture as an analytical tool. Conference speakers emphasized the need not to create unhelpful generalizations and stereotypes of the actors within the mission area, but to embrace the complex and dynamic relationships between counterparts, coalition forces and own forces.

Conference findings stressed the aim of integrating cultural analysis into all levels of military thinking, including the pre-deployment training, the planning process of military operations and the post-deployment information gathering.

Watch the video to hear main points from the speakers and participants at the conference on how cultural analysis can be used to ensure mission efficiency.
