The Military Linguist programme
The Officer Linguist programme is an intensive two-year course in which specially selected cadets are trained as military interpreters and cultural advisers. Currently, the languages taught are Russian and Arabic. The course includes basic military training, language training and modules in history, politics, economics, military strategy and religion. All modules are tailored to the cadets’ language specialisation. The first four months of the Officer Linguist programme are spent at theArmy Non-Commissioned Officers School while the remaining 20 months take place at the Royal Danish Defence College. After completion of the programme, language officers often work as in-theatre interpreters while simultaneously providing advice about the culture of the mission area in support of military units.
